Dr. Sarah Hopper is originally from Rome, GA, and moved to Macon to attend Mercer University in 2011. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, graduating magna cum laude. Some highlights of her undergraduate years included playing intramural sports, exploring Macon, tutoring Chemistry, and attending Mercer on Mission to Ecuador.

During her senior year, she explored various career opportunities and ended up working as a Chemical Engineer at Armstrong World Industries, a ceiling tile manufacturing plant the size of 30 football fields right here in Macon. She worked there for four years and thoroughly enjoyed it, but after the unexpected passing of her father, along with experiencing some amazing physician care during his hospital stay, she felt God start calling her to the field of medicine.

She began volunteering at the Macon Volunteer Clinic and became more and more passionate about taking care of people- helping them stay healthy and happy for as long as possible. She went on to study medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine and then trained in Internal Medicine at the Mercer University Internal Medicine Residency program at Atrium Navicent. She was awarded the 2026 Physician’s Physician Award, voted on by her peers as the physician other doctors would want caring for themselves and their family members.

While at Armstrong, she met her husband, Chase Hopper, and they now have two young boys, John and Theo. When she’s not at work, she enjoys taking them to Amerson River Park for walks and playground time, and during the summer, floating the Ocmulgee River. She also enjoys playing basketball and tennis, weight lifting, rock climbing, hiking, horseback riding, and painting when her busy schedule allows.

Over the past 15 years, she has fallen in love with the Macon community and is honored to be caring for the patients here at Internal Medicine Associates.
